Building websites many years ago was a challenge. We didn't have the powerful tools we use today. I am talking about when we would use tables for layouts, images for buttons, and flash for video and animated interaction. One popular tool were image maps.

For those of you who don't know, image maps are simply assigning a URL to a particular section on an image. This way, an image, like a map with pins on it for example, could assign a URL link to a particular part of the image, so an image could have several different links.

This was a common practice back then, which has become scarce today since there are more economical ways of doing this with the powerful layout features we have today. But I found myself in a situation where an image map was the best option, but there was one flaw. It was not responsive.

I found a simple and nifty tool that makes responsive image maps. It is free and online. I used it on a few images on my portfolio and it worked perfectly. I encourage you to add the link to this app to your toolbox.
